A touch of nostalgia

Hi everybody, here's a quick writing task to start the week - sorry I missed the Monday deadline.  It starts with a short youtube clip my kids were watching with their dad this weekend.  We loved it and the kids did too - they thought it was hilarious and were quoting if afterwards for hours, though I don't really know why it appealed to them - it's definitely aimed more at my age group!

Anyway, here it is.  I hope you like it. Please let me know which definition - or definitions - you like best and why, and how many of the objects you have seen or used in the past. Once you've had a chance to see it I'll let you know my favourite, but I don't want to spoil the surprise so I'll say nothing for the moment.  Ah yes, the clip's actually in French with English subtitles, so you get two languages for the price of one ;) (the task is in writing the responses more than in reading the subtitles ). I don't know why, but I love the clip all the more because it's in French.

Looking forward to reading your responses!
Bye for now,
Ceri

  1. How old I feel! Thanks, Ceri ;( I remember the 'very old phones', of course, but I love the fact that one of the kids says you don't need a number, as if it was magic!

It's also funny how the kids automatically learn to 'scratch' with the old vinyl record within seconds... It's the obvious thing to do with it!

  2. Hi Dan!
I love the total mystery surrounding the floppy disks - and the lad who decides it's probably a camera of some sort :)
And of course, the scratching - I've been reading about CD plants closing down and the "death of the CD" recently, and it looks like vinyl records are going to long outlive the CD - who'd have thought that way back then when they first came out?

  3. Hi!
I love the video, it's very fun like the children look at the objects as if all those stuff came from outer space.
The clip makes me feel terribly old, because when I was the same age as the children most of those objects hadn't been invented yet, and nowadays they could be a museum piece.
My favourite is the pick-up record player with his small vinyl record, when the boy, with a smile in his face, scratches the vinyl like a dj.

  4. Hi Mercedes!
I love the record player and its single as well - I can remember buying my first single so clearly (Cool for Cat by Squeeze http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pblSU5M1d1Y - now I really am showing my age!)
And I love the way the boy knows what it is straight away, and the smile spreads across his face because he knowns exactly what to do with it :)

  5. Hi Everyone!

It`s a very funny video. I fuond funny how the girl with the blonde hair and white shirt discovers new wat to use that "strange" objects, for example, she fans herself with the large floppy disc, rolls de vinyl disc as If it was a toy,or rolls the ball of the huge mouse. Other thing I found funny was when the two boys wanted to fit the cartridge of a video game in a Game Boy but they couldn't do it despite of the "conviction" of one of them that they could.
And when the boy scratches the vinyl the first impression saying "oooooh" and then the smile in his face.

Mercedes and Paco I'll see you tomorrow in the new friday classes.
    Bye

  6. Hi Fernando!
Nice to see you (even if it's only your profile picture!) Yes, there are so many funny things in the video - I smiled all the way through :)

(a little thing for everyone to look at - notice that we say "a smile on my/his/your face" - we use ON not IN.)

Hope you enjoy your new class tomorrow! I'm going to try and come in and catch you for a coffee in the break - or after class - one Friday. Probably not this week, but next.

    Bye for now,
    Ceri
